As we told you earlier this week, Sony has dropped the price of the 60GB Playstation 3 by $100 in North America. We then told you about how much and how quickly this boosted sales of the Blu-ray next-gen system. Today we get to advise you that if you're planning on buying the 60GB at the reduced price, well friend, you'd better hurry. In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, David Reeves, Sony's European's Entertainment President said that he doesn't expect the 60GB to be available in America after the end of July. Here's the important part of the interview for your reading displeasure: Gamesindustry.biz: How concerned are you about possible criticisms that you should have given European consumers what SCEA has given US consumers, i.e. the option to pay a lower price? David Rees: Well, they're not really are they, because what the US are offering from the 1st of August is a USD 599 version with one game. All they're doing is taking their stock in trade that they've got at the moment of the 60GB model, marking the price down and it will all be gone by the end of July. Gamesindustry.biz:So once the 60GB is gone, that will be the end of the 60GB then? David Rees:In America, yes. So if you've just been dying to play games like Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, and... uh... Motorstorm, you should probably get to your local game retailer, like, today, and get the PS3 before the good price point is all sold out. Source UPDATE: Further research on the issue reveals that it seems this is correct - when they are gone they are gone. Sony says they have enough 60 Gig models left to last several months, but who knows.
