It's been a while since I've played a fun game that engaged me. Don't get me wrong, I've played fun games, but it always seemed like something was lacking. I would plow through them and have a decent time doing it, but I would end up feeling empty at the end of it. Fallout 3 is a good example of this for me. I didn't feel any different from when I sat down till when I finished. I want a game to be like a book for me where I am moved and changed at the end of the journey. I remember when I first played FF7 and it just blew my mind. There some something memorable about the characters and the story and at the end of that game I felt like I had grown some.
I picked up Tales of Vesperia used the other day for 25$ and I sat down to play it, hoping that it might remind me why I enjoy playing video games so much.
It hasn't dissapointed.
There is something magical about this game that I can't quite put my finger on it, but everytime I sit down to play it a smile crosses my face and I feel like I'm that kid again playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time. Maybe I'm just been dogged down with these RPG's that feel more like MMOs, where you can make your character be whomever you want them to be, but at the end of the day, maybe I like my characters already defined. Maybe I'm just the type of guy that enjoys having a story and characters set out for me like a book.
