The numbers game continues. Reuters is reporting that in the last nine months, Blu-Ray DVD titles have outsold HD DVD titles nearly 2 to 1. The actual figures are 2.6 million Blu-Ray units sold, as compared to 1.4 million HD DVD units. The total number since the introduction of both formats in 2006 are 3.01 million Blu-Ray discs, and 1.97 million HD DVD discs.
These numbers were reported before the release of the HD DVD exclusive Transformers, whose 100,000+ sales will definitely have an impact. Although, Spider-Man 3 and the Spider-Man Box set will be released on October 31st, exclusive to Blu-Ray. In the meantime, the real numbers are still behind regular DVD, and it could be a while before any definitive winner starts to emerge.
I don't like conflict. I prefer knowing that the product I invest money in is going to have a life span longer than a fruit fly. I have jumped on the Blu-Ray band wagon with the purchase of a PS3. With the PS3 price drop, more and more gamers could start to pick up Blu-Ray discs to take full advantage of their new Sony "media center". [Gizmodo, Reuters]
