New Planetside Comic Updated as Countdown Timer Ticks Away
Nanite Levels Dropping

Two weeks back, Sony Online Entertainment's Planetside webpage was updated with a mysterious countdown clock. Above it, a comic, showing some of the game's characters pressing a button. At the time, we had no idea what either thing meant. Now? We still have no idea. As the countdown continues, however, some more clues have leaked out, and while we're still unsure of what it might mean, we now have slightly more to go on.
First, a new comic, posted above, which shows a mysterious character (that we're forced to assume is Dr. Claw). He makes mention of nanites, and the process of converting them into something. What that something is, we have no idea. What we do know, however, is that the game's anniversary is coming up soon (see: at the end of the countdown), and that Sony Online Entertainment has promised to bring some unannounced software to next month's E3. Hmm...
It really boils down to three possibilities:
- The game's servers are being closed, though I doubt SOE would have a countdown clock to such an event.
- A sequel is being announced, and we're going to hear more at E3.
- There's going to be some sort of in-game event for the people still playing, and this whole hype train was meaningless to everyone else.
The countdown ends on May 20th, the game's anniversary, so be sure to check back after that to find out what it all means.
