I need a non-Japanese game to play.
So I seem to be writing articles on video games for real now. Don't worry, I still love you guys. However, I need your help thinking of some games to review.
Requirements:
- Must have been released in the past three years, preferably in the past year.
- Must have some sort of storyline above the bare minimum.
- Must have at least one prominent female character.
- Must be a product of a country other than Japan.
Any of the seventh gen consoles are fine, as well as PS2. Downloadables are fine, but PC titles aren't.
Ideas?!

Heavenly Sword is noted by some people as the "Goddess of War" in lines with Kratos's character.
The story is interesting but not to deep, about a female named Nariko who posses a sword that eventually drains the life of the person who holds it.
The voice acting is great and very dramatic cut scenes. The game mechanics are the equivalent to the God of War style of combos and finishing moves, and with in themselves are awesome to watch.
Unfortunately, where Heavenly Sword falls short is the game play. You're constantly fending off a large group of enemies that becomes extremely repetitive and not spaced out enough to give any breathing room. Blocking can be a pain so your either counter-attacking or dogging. The quick time button mashing is off at times so you end up redoing a scene. And to top it all it's about 7 to 8hrs of game play.I hope that helps Anthropy.

Oh I know it's Japanese, my comment had nothing to do with the topic, hehe.
Was just surprised there was a new one coming out, that one missed my radar. :)I guess this one is too old for you but Beyond Good And Evil had an EXCELLENT female lead (sequel being developed though).

Thanks, everyone!
@several: I've played Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge, haha. Good to know I'm not entirely on the wrong wavelength.
@Relayer: Yes, they're making a new one... But like Selly etc pointed out, it's Japanese. /=)
@QMarc: Pure has a plot? O_o
@FemJesse: I was interested in checking out Heavenly Sword! My game design T.A. back in university kept chattering about that one. It seems to have only garnered lukewarm reviews, though-- how well does it play?

I'd go with Sarah's picks (prominent female, right?).
There was a new Parasite Eve???
That game rocked 10 years ago!

Assassin's Creed, Fable II, Splinter Cell, Fallout 3, Lair, Pure, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
I'm sure you own at least one of the games I listed. Those are a few out of my own collection that are made on our shores. I'm sure there are more, I'm just drawing blanks.

Wow! Voyou I'm absolutely shocked you don't know of any non-japanese games.
Heavenly Sword is fun, if short, and blatantly ripped off of God of War. I don't think that's japanese?

I second (or third...) Mass Effect. Fallout 3 has some interesting characters in it as well, outside of the main character which, in my mind, is gender neutral because you can choose to be male or female and the game does little to adapt either way. Same with Fable 2, although it may be interesting to investigate NPCs reactions to the fact that you are male or female.

Lets see there is Tomb Raider: Underworld, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Left 4 Dead, Syberia: for the DS, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune are all that I can come up with.

I agree with Coop, Mass Effect is one of my favorites.

Yeah, Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider: Underworld are two recent games worth reviewing with prominent female characters. Okay, Lara Croft might be a little TOO obvious, but so what.

@ TrunksX:
Parasite Eve?!?!? Dude, that was based off of a Japanese sci-fi novel and was released more than ten years ago.
Anyway: I'd suggest Half-Life 2-Episode 2.
