Sony Messes Up
So all day I've been going back and forth with this damn story. At this point I am so completely sick of it. But I guess that happens when you've re-written about one thing, three separate times in one day, not to mention it was so stupid and annoying to begin with.
If you haven't already heard, congratulations.
Seriously though, if you haven't already heard, Sony is in some trouble with everybody for some photos that were published in the Official Play Station Magazine from an event that was held in Athens for the European release of God Of War II. The event had a theme to go along with the product and location, of ancient mythology, even featuring a male model who resembled Kratos, the hero from the game. Not to mention topless girls wearing only paint on their boobies.
Here's where things get pickled.
What we do know is there was a goat. Not only was it a goat, it was a goat carcass. Not only was it a goat carcass, it was a decapitated goat carcass. Gross? Yes.
One side of the story, according the to UK's Daily Mail, claims the goat was displayed with food in it's stomach. Apparently the journalists were encouraged to reach in and eat as much intestines as they could stuff themselves with. Then they claimed it was prepared outside of the animal. And so on and so on.
I don't have time for this, so read more here.
THEN Sony responded that it was not intestines that was served, it was traditional meat soup, and that people were told not to touch the goat. The goat came from a local butcher and was killed prior to the event. Best part however is that the article in the OPSM was written by someone who wasn't even at the event.
I don't have time for this, so read more here.
Well well well...
Isn't this flippin' dandy.
I've been digesting this story since last night. I was shocked. Then I was grossed out. Then I was pissed. And now I'm just annoyed.
I have no idea who to believe, so I'm going to go ahead and say I don't trust either source. One is a UK paper claiming some pretty crazy things, and the other is Sony who let this story slide all the way into print.
I know everyone is upset over the goat. I am myself. I think it's gross and the whole head barely hanging on is just far too much. But I prefer to take a stab elsewhere. Sony. One of the biggest name brands in the world, right up there with Coca-Cola. You are marketing a video game that is so violent, it is rated for the ages 18 and up. You are one of the biggest advocates of video games, and an even bigger scape goat for every violent attack in current events (not even counting the blow to video games after the VA Tech shootings, since this event took place March 1st). If you decide to stand behind your product, especially as controversial as God Of War II, then you need to stand above it. This...was not.

That's because you're a girl.
This event was obviously geared towards men.
