Rumor: Gamespot Editor Fired for Low Review
The rumors are starting...
A firestorm is brewing on the internet. Its eruption could cause a massive explosion taking out half of the servers with it. Apparently a reviewer at Gamespot, Jeff Gerstmann, has been fired for giving Kane and Lynch a 6.0. This wouldn't be an issue if the entire site wasn't covered with Kane and Lynch promotions.
"According to a fellow Gamespot contributor and close friend of Gerstmann who wished to remain anonymous, the editor was fired Wednesday morning because of his negative review of the game, which he awarded a 6.0." -Destructoid
Now lets not turn this into a flame war on what the game deserved, that isn’t really the issue. Metacritic is giving it about a 70%, give or take, so his review score is in line. I don’t know how this really could have gotten to a firing level. Why this couldn’t be discussed reasonably is beyond me.
The rumors are also that it wasn’t the score, but the content. Again, not a reason to be fired, but a good point. This guy has been known for causing problems by focusing on a games negative points. He gave Bioshock a 9, Twilight Princess an 8.8, and Tony Hawks Pro Skater a 10/10. Gamespot should have fired his ass for being a bad reviewer, but doing it like this and for this reason is just going to put them ass deep in trouble.
Odds are there is much more to this story then CNET deciding to fire him for a low score, we will see...

It is most likely true. You know theres people who are paid to go on game forums to talk good about games and to look like gamers

Wonderful, firing a reviewer for his/her opinion
if Gamespot was that hellbent on giving Kane and Lynch a higher score they should have written their own biased review. and then put a disclaimer stating "This is a biased review, we never played the game, we just wanted to make the game look good so people would buy it."

I guess there is no reason to go to gamespot.com anymore. Really, gerstman was the only personality i liked there. I remember the controversy from his giving Twilight Princess an 8.8. After playing that game i'd have to agree with him... its a good game but its not the end all be all zelda game people were expecting (in fact i found it to be lacking). Jeff was a riot on the hot spot podcast too.
I'm not worried about his future, it won't be more than a week before he is either hired back to gamespot or picked up by another media group.

If it is true and he fights them, he will win. Plain and simple.

If this rumor is true I don't see anything wrong. They write reviews for games and people look at those reviews before buying a game. Looking at reviews is one thing I do before I buy anything. So I would hope everyone is honest about their reviews.

I am hearing there are some other things going on with this. Namely that this was all Gamespot's doing, well, not them, but their owners. Expect to see him rehired, paid hush money, and this entire thing to be hushed as fast as possible.

The review is still up on Gamespot, but there is an editor's note:
"Editor's Note: This review has been updated to include differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions and a clarification on the game's multiplayer mode."
Interesting.

Remember this is a rumor, don't be like the idiots who are spamming the internet trying to get this guy rehired when there isn't any confirmation he was fired in the first place.
