Early this year, June release dates for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M appeared in GameStop's computer, making us wonder if the mega-retailer knew something we didn't. While we're not as quick as others to dismiss the evil company's release dates (since they're very often correct), these ones definitely seemed like they could be placeholders. However, at a summit in Australia yesterday, Nintendo mentioned that the highly anticipated titles (both announced at E3 09) would be coming "mid-year", which is right in the ballpark that we reported nearly two months ago.
More news is expected to come out of Nintendo's North American summit later today, so perhaps the games will actually get release dates. I know I'm psyched for Super Mario Galaxy 2, but really wasn't expecting it before holiday season 2010 at the earliest. This begs the question: if Nintendo is releasing these games in the summer, does that mean they're saving something even bigger for later in the year? We'll be waiting here at the edge of our seats, holding our collective breath, until we find out more.
