Last week, I got a look at upcoming Atlus-published action/adventure game 3D Dot Game Heroes, and I was pretty excited about what I saw. One of the surprisingly interesting features was the way swords were used. Not only are there a number of different swords to be found and equipped by the hero, but the weapons vary in size and design, and can be upgraded in various ways. Today Atlus released some new screens with a focus on swordplay to help you get an idea of just how big and crazy these things can get.
I don't know about you, but I think it's going to be immensely satisfying to slice through everything in sight with a comically large sword, as seen in the second and fourth screens after the jump. I don't know if that would be practical for the dungeon segments, though; from the looks of it, having such an unwieldly weapon wouldn't be a strategic choice in a tight space. I never actually gave any thought to the ways different swords would work in varying environments, but it definitely makes 3D Dot Game Heroes more unique, and sets it apart from all of those Legend of Zelda comparisons. Yeah, I know Link's sword could shoot things when his health was full, but when's the last time you saw the Master Sword take up half a screen? That's what I thought.
