Game: Link’s Crossbow Training and Wii Zapper
Genre: Crossbow Simulation
Platform: Wii

As a lifelong Legend of Zelda fan, anything that puts me back into the land of Hyrule is worth a go in my book. Therefore, it shouldn’t be too surprising that I was more than willing to try out Link’s Crossbow Training. More of a mini-game or training device for the new Wii Zapper than a full game, Link’s Crossbow Training nonetheless delivers some fun, and proves that the Wii Zapper has potential to be a great peripheral for the system.

First things first, the game comes bundled in with the new Wii Zapper. The Zapper is designed to feel like a shooting device, and the remote and nunchuk are placed comfortably inside it for controls. Using the Zapper felt very natural. Aiming, shooting, and moving are all done with relative ease.

As for the game itself, though somewhat shallow, it is actually a whole lot of fun. Each level takes you to a different location around Hyrule, where you aim at either targets or actual enemies to rack up points. Simple, yes, but it works well. In addition to the single-player mode, which involves unlocking increasingly difficult levels, there is a fun multiplayer mode. Again, it’s relatively straightforward; up to four players take turns on a selected level trying to get the best score. It’s also worth noting that Joe got completely owned when he tried to challenge me today.

By itself, Link’s Crossbow Training is almost worth the price. The fact that it comes with the Wii Zapper just makes it even more worth it. I’m interested to see what games will be coming out to support it in the future (can we get a new Duck Hunt? Pretty please?). For $25, you’re getting a good deal.
