Condemned 2 Ads Banned in England
Condemned 2 has been damaging families and ruining the souls of children in Europe since early April of this year. That's a full five months of unchecked brutality infecting the most impressionable minds across the Continent (unless you're talking about Germany, whose BPjM indexed the game...). Fortunately, the geniuses running Great Britian's Advertising Standards Authority (a watchdog group) have decided to strike while the iron is ice cold.
Brian Ashcraft at Kotaku is reporting that the Authority received nine complaints about three specific ads for the game, and has banned the campaign. According to the ASA, the spots were too "brutal" and "realistic". The ads, which were running after 9PM, were further deemed, "inappropriate for broadcast at any time." In a statement, the ASA said:
We noted in particular that both ads showed a man punching another on the floor and blood splattering on the screen as a man was beaten with a club and considered viewers were likely to find those scenes offensive and distressing and to see them as condoning real violence and cruelty.
I don't think I've made a secret over my extreme disdain for censorship, in any form. This one seems particularly arbitrary though, as not only has the game been out for almost half a year, but it only took nine complaints to get the entire campaign pulled. But at least the kids will be safe now.
