EA Games has announced a partnership with the Weather Channel that will bring real-time weather to future EA Sports titles. The Weather Channel will provide hourly updates via on-line services (Xbox Live, PlayStation Network) which will then be incorporated into the venue chosen to play. This means if its snowing in the real Green Bay, any game you simulate at Lambeau will also have snow. A spokesman for EA, Tyrone Miller, promises that the weather conditions will impact the game, saying, "rain will cause more fumbles, you'll see players breathe in the cold, and they'll get tired when it's hot." This feature is already in place on NCAA 08 for the Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3, but did not make it into this year's version of Madden. EA claims that by next year it will be available for the entire EA Sports catalog, although there are no specifics on what games exactly you can expect to see it on (I don't see much benefit in putting this into NBA Live...) Real-time updates are already being utilized on EA games; from ESPN radio feeds while you are in the menu screen on NBA Live to the real-time scoring updates showing up in the tickers on various sports titles. EA envisions using real-time updates to even further advantage in the future. Whereas now roster updates occur monthly, Miller sees them becoming more frequent down the road. But he does caution against making things too real. "If you're playing during a real game and a player gets injured, he’ll get injured in your game. That’s a realism that’s extreme," he said. "Just because it happens in real life doesn't mean you want it in your game. We're always looking to push it to the next level, but we still want to give players their fantasy fulfillment." Source
