LittleBigPlanet Re-re-readdresses Moderation Issues

And Yet Still Lack a Definitive Solution

by Sean

Last week Sony and Media Molecule announced a weekly feature which would highlight the constantly evolving world of LittleBigPlanet and the myriad changes taking place therein. This week, the "Sack it to Me" blog again takes on the issue of level moderation within the universe of those LittleBigPlanets, and although they get a bit closer to defining the exact policies of regulation, I still find myself scratching my head over what exactly is okay.

Here's the new official word:

We haven’t forgotten about those of you who have been affected by level moderation either. Changes are coming very soon, and we believe the way we check levels for inappropriate content will soon start to be received more favorably. We know it’s a big deal, and we’re very much working on it.

So there you have it. Or maybe you don't. I don't know. It's a murky issue, and one that is frought with potential problems for Sony. On the one hand, you don't want people to be offended when they're playing LittleBigPlanet with their child or grandparent. On the other hand, Sony needs to avoid looking like they are going out of their way to censor peoples' original creations. Where does artistic license give way to corporate responsiblity? Maybe we'll find out next week.

Well... at least now it sounds like they actually have some idea what's going on. They're getting there. I guess.

I just hope they don't find my "Mouse Trap" themed level deserving of deletion. I have to create all new items for some of the stuff. Time consumption on something that will be deleted is terrible.
