UPDATED - Capcom Announces Dead Rising, Lost Planet Sequels
Cross-Platform Carnage on the Way

Teasers and countdowns and vague hints about upcoming games are all well and good, but sometimes we just want to hear, straight-up, what we can expect. Capcom exec Keiji Inafune apparently agrees.
Kotaku is reporting that the upcoming issue of Japanese gaming mag, Famitsu, includes an interview with Inafune, wherein he states, “We're finally putting out new Dead Rising and Lost Planet games!” Succinct, to the point, no nonsense. I like that. I also like the fact that a new Dead Rising is on the way; hopefully one that lets you save every once in a while and doesn’t flood you with annoying calls from Otis. Maybe he’s a zombie this time, and you get to cut his head off with a gardening tool. That would be cathartic.
In the interview, Inafune also remarks, “As a main principle we're thinking about multi-platform, and expanding upon both slightly from the Xbox 360 version.” This falls in line with Capcom’s promise to their shareholders that all major releases from this year forward would be “developed as multi-platform games.”
With the ridiculously expensive movie adaptation on the way, a sequel to Lost Planet is no surprise. Dead Rising, however, looked like it might never get a second iteration, so this is great news for zombie survival fans. It’s also great news for PS3 owners, who never got the chance to literally mow down dozens of shambling, undead horrors.
We’ll keep you updated; we always do.
UPDATE - According to a Capcom UK spokesperson, Inafune's alleged comments do NOT constitute a confirmation of a Dead Rising sequel. Speaking with CVG, the rep stated,
"Dead Rising was a huge success for us and is obviously the kind of game we'd like to continue to make...However, at the moment we have made no official announcement regarding a sequel. As the source is Famitsu, I can only suggest that it was a mistranslation."
Hopefully, this is just Capcom waiting for a specific event or date to officially announce DR2, but there is a chance that the quote really was mistranslated. That would truly suck. It would suck eggs.

So I don't know if anybody remembers this, but there was a PC zombie survival game that came out years and years ago called Flesh Feast. It was kind of Diablo meets Zombies Ate My Neighbors. The game sucked, but boasted over 500 weapons, many with multiple uses.
One of my only two complaints about Dead Rising was the lack of weapon variety. The game was made to be played through multiple times, but after the second or third time, it did get kinda stale. I hope that they take a cue from Flesh Feast with Dead Rising 2 and just throw in more weapons than we can shake a zombie at.....................or shake at a zombie.
My other complain with the first Dead Rising was the time limit. It worked for the game, but I'm a completionist at heart and I just hate time limits and generally cringe when one presents itself in a game it has no place in (like Skate 2). I'd like to think that they can find a way to get rid of the time limit for Dead Rising 2, but I's been reported that the game is going to take place in a Vegas casino, so a confined area like that leads me to believe that we'll still be waiting for a helicopter or tank to come and get us.
Anyone have any thoughts on any of my babbling?
@the update: I think this is just them attempting to head off speculation about something they're not ready to "officially" announce yet. The official announcement should be coming soon.
The time constraints are what made it a game instead of a button mashing sandbox snore-fest.
I donno. I think if there was an option to turn the time limit off so you can just go apeshit on a bunch of zombies, I'd go back to playing it more often than I do now, as In I haven't touched it since I threw it into my new HDTV a year ago to see if I could read the text.
