If you're like me, you loved the fact that Nintendo made the Classic Controller available for the Wii.  Playing classic games on a controller that essentially feels like a Super Nintendo controller is perfect, making the Virtual Console one of the best ways to play yesterday’s best titles.  The only problems with the gamepad were its size and the location of the secondary shoulder buttons.  It’s too small for my giant freak-hands, and reaching the L2 and R2 buttons is nearly impossible.

Nintendo has apparently had enough of my bitching about the controller, and has posted a pic of a new controller, the Classic Controller Pro, on their Japanese website.

The controller is basically a regular Classic controller, except with new, more traditional shoulder button placement and some PS3-style handgrips.  The controller’s design is quite nice, and reflects the minimalist aesthetic of the Wii perfectly.  It looks so nice with the handgrips, in fact, that one would think the controller was originally intended to have them.  The analog sticks appear to have been moved out from center a bit, as well, further matching the controller to my gargantuan mitts.

Of course, since this is only on the Japanese site, we can expect a 6-8 month delay at the very least before it is even announced in the US, but it’s nice to see that the hands of larger gamers are being catered to.
