Dragon Age DLC Pack Pulled From Xbox Live

"Return to Ostagar" Returned to Drawing Board

by Veggie Jackson

After a brief delay due to unforeseen issues, the first DLC pack for Dragon Age: Origins, "Return to Ostagar," was released on Xbox Live yesterday.  Unfortunately, a title update was also released, and the two are apparently not getting along at all.  In fact, BioWare had to pull the DLC from Xbox Live yesterday, because the title update was causing unforeseen issues with characters’ specialization classes.

Players who downloaded both the DLC and the update were experiencing problems with specialization classes; mainly that they suddenly didn’t work anymore.  BioWare was quick to act, pulling the DLC until a fix can be implemented, and issuing the following statement,

This morning a title update on the Xbox 360 for Dragon Age: Origins was made available in preparation for the release of Return to Ostagar. This title update introduced a previously undetected issue that causes specialization classes to not work correctly in Dragon Age: Origins. We are removing Return to Ostagar from Xbox Live until the issue is resolved and are recommending that you do not download the title update. If you have already performed the update, we apologize for this and are working hard to ensure a fix is available as soon as possible.

We will provide more information to you when it is available.

The delay for this anticipated DLC was bad enough, but now we have gamers whose save files may be corrupted by the download issue.  BioWare is doing what they can to address the problem, but a game-breaking glitch like this should never get through testing and out to the public. Hopefully, this issue won't be repeted on the PC or PS3 versions of the DLC, which will arrive some time this month.
