One of the best games on the original Xbox was Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath.  A quirky little shooter, Stranger’s Wrath represented the fourth entry in Lorne Lanning’s Oddworld series.  While the game received almost universal critical acclaim, it wasn’t a big seller, and flew under the radar of most gamers.  Furthermore, the game was an Xbox exclusive, and when the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility program came into effect, it was, sadly, left off the list.

For those of us who never got the chance to play it last generation, our time is coming soon. Speaking with Bitmob, Lorne Lanning has announced that he has signed a deal with, of all people, Sony, to release "the original Abe games…very soon," as well as Munch’s Odysee and Stranger’s Wrath “sometime this Winter.”

The release of the original two games was suspected for some time now, thanks to an early ESRB rating, but this is the first we’ve heard of the two newer titles getting a re-release.  The third and fourth games will come bundled under the name The Oddbox.

As for a new game in the series, Lanning stated, “We hope to have an announcement soon, but I've been saying that for a while now so I'll just shut up and hope for the best."  The franchise has been quiet for over four years now, and it’s well past time we got some new Oddworld goodness.
