A few months ago, when it was announced that Darth Vader and Yoda would be playable characters in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Soulcalibur IV, the sound of collective Star Wars fans’ eye-rolls could be heard from here to Ryloth (and that’s way out in the Outer Rim!)  Today’s announcement that a third lightsaber-slinger would be entering the fray probably won’t anger fans quite as much, but the message boards should still see a spike in snarky Lucas hatred.  Vader’s Apprentice, the protagonist of the much anticipated Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be stepping in to the ring against his master, a certain diminutive Jedi and a slew of barely clad, preposterously proportioned warrior women when the game is released on July 29.

Many purists are disgusted by Star Wars’ improbable invasion of the “Soul” universe, and by the overexposure of Lucas’ creations in general.  I, for one, couldn’t be happier.  Think about it this way; Vader, Yoda and Whatshisname make Soulcalibur IV sell more copies.  More copies means more money.  George Lucas reeeeeally likes money.  Lucasarts makes a new all-Star Wars fighting game.  I get to butcher Jar Jar with Kit Fisto.  See how that works?
