WiiWare Final Fantasy DLC Details

You Want Me To Pay For WHAT?!?

by Veggie Jackson

Nintendo’s WiiWare is off to a rocky start.  First, the Japanese launch of the game service was plagued by connectivity problems, and now, many are balking at the way that downloadable content will be structured for its largest title, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronices: My Life as a King.  Apprently, the initial cost of 1,500 Wii Shop points will only give players access to one of the playable races in the game.  The rest will need to be downloaded at additional cost of 100 points each.  Clothing options will also be available for purchase, though they don’t appear to change the game in any real way.

To me, this is worse than the Horse Armor transgression that Oblivion committed on the 360 a couple of years ago.  That was useless crap that you could opt to pay for.  This is selling an incomplete game, then charging extra to own the whole package.  With last Summer’s Lumines Live controversy still fresh in gamers’ minds, a greed-fuelled move like this seems not only foolish, but somewhat insulting. I know that Final Fantasy fans are a special breed, and will buy up pretty much anything even remotely related to the series, but keep abusing DLC like this, Nintendo, and there won’t be an audience for it for long.

I might be a crazy Final Fantasy fan, but I'm not down with paying for an incomplete game and then buying semi-useless add-ons. Meh to that.
